This study analyzes the transborder intellectual network established by Sheikh Ahmad Khatib al-Minangkabawi (1860–1916) within the framework of interaction between the Malacca Strait region and the center of Islamic scholarship in Mecca. The Strait of Malacca is viewed as a dynamic civilizational zone that facilitated the movement of religious leaders, students, and Islamic discourse between the Malay world and the center of religious authority in the Haramain. Within this network, Sheikh Ahmad Khatib played a vital role as a figure from the Nusantara who held high scholarly legitimacy in Mecca while simultaneously serving as a bridge for the transmission of knowledge to the Malay world. Utilizing a qualitative method through literature review and a historical-intellectual approach, this research gathered data from ancient manuscripts, historical documents, the works of Sheikh Ahmad Khatib, and other relevant literature. The data analysis process was carried out through a series of stages, from heuristics to historiographical writing, to map the established intellectual relationships. The research findings indicate that this network was formed through the halaqah system, the granting of ijazah (scholarly licenses), and the distribution of written works involving interactions between teachers and students from various parts of the Nusantara. The impact of this network not only strengthened the relationship between the Malacca Strait and Mecca but also contributed significantly to the Islamic scholarly tradition in the coastal Malay region. This study affirms that such transnational connections constitute a vital foundation in the trajectory of intellectual history and the development of Islam in the Malay world
